When I created my styling company many years ago, it all started with a visit to a client's home to see what she had in her closet. She wanted me to put together some outfits with the clothes she already had and incorporate some new pieces that we purchased together.
This prompted me to begin going to clients homes for many years, twenty to be exact. And over the years I have seen many commonalities. Not all clients are the same: some are highly organized and have dream walk in closets, while others have smaller closets and/or use multiple closets for different styles of clothing.
A Minnesotan closet typically consists of having the winter wardrobe separated from the rest of your closet, such as having a basement closet or separate space in the attic specifically reserved for winter coats, gloves, and hats.
Depending on the size of your home, I like to see all my pieces clearly during each specific season and not need to run all over the house to search for that special dress or leather jacket for a dinner while rushing out the door.
I’ve noticed that not all women or men have the time to spend doing a closet rehab session; taking every single thing out of their closet takes effort and energy. Some simply just don’t want to either. However, many times, items are not buttoned, pants and dresses are not on the hangers correctly, and clothing tends to look sloppy if not hung correctly.
You’ll be surprised at your closet transformation when items are hung like a professional boutique. Your $20 Target t-shirt will look like a million dollars when placed and stored correctly. I also noticed some people use wire hangers from dry cleaners - my worst nightmare.
They tend to make your closet appear cheap (like a garage sale), crease the items, and tend to rust over time. I like to use all the same size hangers and if the client can swing for it: a trip to the container store for wood hangers to create a cohesive, uniform look and make any closet look like a dream.
It's not all glitz and glamour for stylists. Sometimes, you have to be willing to really get in there and get the job done, no matter what kind of closet you work with. I love all my clients and I never judge a book by its cover because I get excited for what I can do for you and how I can elevate your lifestyle, and ultimately, your look.
Over the years, I began to realize that one of the reasons we continue to keep buying things is that we simply can’t see what’s already in our closets - some are dimly lit, poorly organized (like placing workout clothes next to work outfits and jeans next to formal wear), accessories are not in a special spot, and shoes tend to not get put back into their places. Items can be overstocked in a full closet, thus sending you on a buying frenzy.
We are all guilty of keeping pieces for way too long, such as clothes that have become discolored, stained, or are ill fitting in size. Everyone is so busy these days with work, family, kids, travel, and it's pretty low on the priority list to devote an entire day organizing or color coding our pieces.
This is where I come in. With the help of my team, we come over and physically take every single item out of your closet, clean the entire space, re-button all the shirts, and hang things appropriately. We find you the best hangers for your budget and when you walk into the closet that I have organized for you, it will look like a showroom.
You will love getting dressed everyday, and feel amazing about what you have.
I can arrange appointments for you with local boutiques to sell your items if they have potential monetary value or make an appointment to donate to charity and get tax credit for it.
The possibilities are endless with a quality closet of any size!
Let me take your style to the next level through a closet rehab!
